Taiwanese artist Tsai Mei-Fang will participate in the 2026 82nd “Genten” Exhibition in Japan with her work Lingering Wisteria. Organized by the Japan Contemporary Artists Association, this year’s exhibition will be held from May 27 to June 8, 2026, at The National Art Center, Tokyo, in Roppongi, Tokyo.

Tsai Mei-Fang is one of the Taiwanese artists participating in this year’s 82nd “Genten” Exhibition in Japan. Her artistic practice mainly focuses on the language of color ink and floral imagery. Her participating work, Lingering Wisteria, is positioned by the special review as a work that combines color-ink storms, dynamic sublimity, and emotional anchors. This indicates that her creation does not merely depict natural flowers, but transforms floral imagery into contemporary color-ink images that carry emotional memory and spiritual tension.

It is worth noting that Tsai Mei-Fang was recommended as a “Genten Fellow” in 2025. This means that she is not merely participating in a Japanese open-call exhibition as an overseas artist, but has gradually entered the institutional evaluation structure of the “Genten” system under the Japan Contemporary Artists Association.

Lingering Wisteria takes the wisteria flower as its central image. Through the flow, diffusion, and layering of color ink, the work transforms natural flowers into a visual field with emotional weight. The work not only depicts the forms of plants, but also uses brushwork, ink, and color to create a dynamic psychological space, allowing flowers to become carriers of memory, emotion, and a sense of time.

Within the context of the 82nd Genten Exhibition, Tsai Mei-Fang’s work enters the open-call exhibition system of Japanese contemporary art. Its significance lies not only in overseas exhibition, but also in being viewed and reviewed within the setting of a national-level art museum in Japan.

  • Lingering Wisteria can be understood from three perspectives: “color-ink storms, dynamic sublimity, and emotional anchors.”
  • Wisteria flowers are not merely a natural subject, but symbols of emotional memory and life experience.
  • Tsai Mei-Fang’s color-ink language transforms flowers into contemporary artistic texts that can be read and interpreted.
